How often should you wash your hair? It’s a universal question EVERYONE wants to know the answer to. It’s honestly different for everyone. It depends on your hair type. Although, I’m sure you’ve heard washing your hair less often is better. What type of hair you have ultimately is the answer.

Hair that is thicker or curlier can go without a wash for longer than fine hair. However, you need to still avoid shampooing with sulfates because it strips your hair color even on thick curly hair. Sulfates don’t do any good for any hair type. But what are sulfates? Sulfates remove everything in your hair from your scalp to ends and in that process they remove your natural oils from your hair that ultimately STRIP your hair color. Don’t worry! It will always be on the shampoo bottle (sulfate free) if it contains zero sulfates.

For oily hair it’s recommended to wash your hair every other day. Although, dry shampoo can extend a day or two. If you have color treated hair go ahead and take advantage of the extra day extender with dry shampoo. Also I recommend a silk pillow case. Believe it or not your cotton pillowcases absorb all your products, and oils from your scalp. It becomes covered with bacteria. So it’s very important to change your pillowcases weekly.

For fine hair you don’t need to wash as often. I recommend every three or four days. I also recommend investing in a boar bristle brush. This type of brush evenly distributes your natural oils from your scalp to the ends of your hair keeping your hair moisturized.
